Professional Darts

A Look at What the Worlds Best Darts Players Are Using

And what they probably should be using! I know these aren't professional darts yet, but I wouldn't be at all surprised if they soon are!

Ok, the new hexagon darts that I was talking about… They are actually Nodor 1803 series 85% Tungsten darts with a new Hexoset grip technology.

They can be purchased with the Gary Anderson CD points fitted for a few dollars/ pounds more. The CD points have grip on them up near to the barrels, so your finger won’t slip off the tips, if you hold them that way.

Nodor 1803 Hexoset Darts

I have to admit that if I were to buy a set, I would get the CD points fitted simply because they look even more impressive and I would feel even more like playing with them.

Nodor also makes the Hexoset series darts with slightly different weights and designs too. If you would like to see the full range of Nodor Hexoset Darts click here and then type 1800 in the search box.

There's been a couple of new developments to this story! Read on…

My brother-in-law and good friend Gordon, who is incidentally featured in the “Player Profiles” on this site, ordered a set of the Hexoset 1803 Nodor darts recently. It took less than 2 weeks from transferring money into PayPal to the darts arriving! That’s from the UK to Australia! Impressive.

Now to the darts themselves…

They came with 3 sets of flights, 1 set of stems, a Unicorn out-chart and a A180darts, darts case. I thought they looked really impressive with the CD Grip points although the darts seemed slightly “bloated.” By this I mean that they were fatter than I imagined they would be.

I had a few throws with them and they really didn’t suit me at all. Now I should explain here that I throw with 6mm x 49 mm 19gm darts, so there is a world of difference there.

Gordon quite likes them and is going to persist with them to see how he goes. I think that if you throw with a pinch grip nearer to the front of the darts then they may suit you, providing you like 25gm darts, otherwise the 1801's (24gm) or the 1804's (26gm) may be more up your ally.

NEWSFLASH - I have seen these darts advertised for sale in Australia for $129.95 not including postage! These same darts can be found for well under $100 here. That's including tax & shipping! Or look at the bottom of this page for the 1801's.

Now for some truly professional darts, we have the Unicorn Phil Taylor Darts:

Evolution of the Power Series Phase 2: - 1999 to 2007 Purist 90% Tungsten. Natural or Golden finish with Deep machined extra grip to rear of Barrel.

Now that’s a mouthful! What I love about these darts, apart from the beautiful golden titanium plating to slow the wear, is that they have grip on the full length of the dart. I tend to hold mine using the entire grip so this is important to me.

I'd like to buy a set of these because I wouldn't want to die wondering whether these truly are the best or not. They seem to have everything that I want in a dart and they are beautiful to look at in the gold finish. You can even get them with soft tips if you are that way inclined.

As the description suggests, Phil Taylor used these darts between 1999 and 2007 and had great success with them. I can’t help but wonder how many of these awesome sets of darts he gave away over that period!

Raymond Van Barneveld's “Barney Grip” or “Shark Grip” darts are another example of true professional darts. As great as “Barney” is, he is always looking for ways to improve his game and I think this is reflected in the darts that he uses.

These darts are short in length and are available in lighter weights than the Phil Taylor darts, starting at 21grams in the steel tip variety and ranging up to 25 grams.

I'd certainly like to try out a set of these darts and will tell you how I went If or when I do.

Ok, I bought a set with a similar grip (Razor Grip) and they are very grippy indeed! Read the Darts-addiction.com darts blog page to see the darts that I bought.

Terry Jenkins throws with some very interesting darts indeed but if you like your darts grippy then these are not for you. You would really have to have a firm grip to be able to play with these beauties!

I just had to post these darts on here because the pure simplicity of the design truly is a site to behold. The barrels remind me of sharpened pencils. Only a true professional darts player like Terry Jenkins could throw with darts like these at the highest level!

We'll have a look at some more Professional Darts in the near future such as some more Unicorn Darts, Harrows Darts and maybe some Hammerhead Darts. So watch this space...
